A BACKPACKER who chose sleeping on the floor of a Mexican Mayan village over a senior NRL conditioning role is the secret weapon behind the Sydney Roosters’ premiership push.
Keegan Smith, son of veteran NRL coach Brian, has revolutionised dieting and strength training at the Roosters this season.Smith is so highly rated as a conditioning expert he was on the shortlist to become a trainer at Liverpool FC before following long-term mentor Trent Robinson to Bondi.
A life coach more than a traditional strength trainer, those who have worked with Smith praise his ability to “better people”.
His unique NRL training program combining Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics and strongman drills has helped Roosters players reach personal bests in the gym. Keegan includes AlkaWay water in his recommendations and there is an AlkaWay hydrogen water system in the Roosters’ clubrooms.
